About Us

Teresa Andris, Artisic Director

Teresa has been operating The Bowman School of Dance since September of 1983. She received her masters degree from Temple University’s noted dance department after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from LaSalle University. Aside from heading her studio, Teresa continues to choreograph and perform in the Philadelphia & New York area. She has choreographed numerous musicals including: Godspell, Once Upon A Mattress, Music Man, Bye Bye Birdie, King and I, Sound of Music, Fiddler On The Roof, Baby, West Side Story, 42nd Street, Anything Goes, Grand Hotel, Seesaw, Camelot, Crazy for You, Rent, Carousel, Tommy, and Merrily We Roll Along. Teresa Andris is the founder and current president of The Young Dancer’s Association Inc. College Scholarship Fund. She is the director of The Ballet Project and The Tap Project, and served as Chairperson of the Cherry Hill Arts Advisory Board under mayor Susan Bass Levin. Teresa has produced, directed, and choreographed for numerous concerts, festivals, and charity events in the tri-state area. Ms. Andris is an independent choreographer and guest teacher in addition to working with her award winning company, The Teresa Andris Dancers. Her choreography has been performed at prestigious venues including: Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in NYC, Carnegie Hall in NYC, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC., and in most of the major venues in Philadelphia.

School Policy

PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTRATION!

  • Dress code is strictly enforced. Students should be dressed appropriately and be prepared to start class at the designated time.
  • Attendance is recorded. The office will call students who have inconsistent attendance.
  • Lateness will not be tolerated. Students are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to stretch.
  • No refunds for classes missed for any reason, however, classes may be made up if the studio is notified no later than 1/2 hour before the scheduled class. Make-up classes are the responsibility of the student. Permission to enter another class for make-up must be obtained by the administration.
  • No chewing gum, and no excessive jewelry.
  • Parents and guests are permitted to observe classes only on scheduled visitation weeks.
  • New students may attend a placement/audition class.
  • Evaluations and advancements are made regularly.
  • The spring dance concert, held in June, is not mandatory but encouraged. Most of the dance year will be devoted to technique and only a small percentage of class time will be geared toward the concert.
  • We communicate to students and parents throughout the dance year by handouts, emails, & studio posted signs. Please read what is sent home, as well as visiting the studio from time to time to check our announcements.
  • we ask parents not to approach teachers about student's progress between classes. Please call for an appointment in order to allow proper attention.

Our Faculty

South Jersey's finest in an all around dance studio, our faculty is highly qualified and experienced in both performing, and teaching. Guest teachers are scheduled to teach throughout our dance season.

Summer Programs

Dance classes are offered during the summer months for preschool through professional in all disciplines. Registration begins in May.

The Summer Dance Project

Four and five week arts programs held in residence at The Bowman School of Dance.

Classes for Boys and Men:

The Bowman School of Dance is a respected leader in dance education for boys and men. Classes are now forming. Please call for information.

Dress Code

Ballet Class: Pink tights, solid black leotard, and pink ballet slippers. Pink legwarmers and black skirts for upper levels with approval. Hair must be worn in a bun.

Boys should wear black dance pants, white T-shirt, and black or white ballet slippers.

Tap & Jazz Class: Leotard and tights in any complimentary colors and appropriate shoes for class level. Dance pants or sweats for boys & men.

Students will not be permitted to take class if they are not dressed properly. Dress code goes into effect immediately for former and new students.
